Please forgive me. I have bought another unloved-design of a car, one that I appreciate a lot more than the masses seem to.
This is my first foray into BMW ownership. I promise not to let the asshattery that others seem to strive to into my life in any way. I will be driving it as carefully, precisely, and safely as I do the MR2. I will park it correctly. I will probably put an Oppo sticker on it once I get the windows done.

I love this body style- to the h8ers!

I've always viewed this model as a handsome car. I've also driven a friend of mines exact same one, I likey. hopefully it is not as frustrating as my German car ownership was

I like that you parked far enough over the handicapped sign painted in that spot that we can't see it in the pictures

Give him a week, he'll be parking past this red line....
Kidding, I actually like that generation 5-series, congrats!

It's my first real German car. The 914 doesn't really count. I've been looking at them for a while now, and this is by far the best one I've found.

That says 550, right? If it says 528, no I do not like the body style. If it says 550, to hell with the body style. Great car.

It does say 550, but not for long. Although my officemate (an engineer with an M3) says that once I take the badges off, everyone will know it's a 550, because no 528 or 35 owner would take theirs off.

mine was an 05 s4, so it shouldn't be as bad with your 5 series. mine was perhaps the most frustrating thing experienced yet in my young life

He's pretty correct. I've seen 528s debadged once or twice, but a 535 owner would always leave them on.
As long as you don't put an ///M badge on it (which your officemate would likely kill you for) we're good...

I hate badges. I wish I could take the roundels off just as a matter of principle.

Congratulations - I always liked the E60, and the 550 is a particularly awesome one!

I like roundels. On the other badges, it's a constant internal struggle.
My badges are still on.
But I don't think I like them.

It's thirsty, but you have to push the 6 cyls so hard, it's practically a wash on MPGs. The V8 is a bad motherfucker.

I suppose it's alright.
I actually really like these as well.

I for one like the Bangle cars, nice 5 series sir.

I completely agree with you! Although, as you might surmise from my name, I'm a bit biased in favor of BMW V8s (well, that and I don't give a rat's ass about gas mileage).

Bangle 5eva.

I like a lot of them, too. I also really appreciate Bangle as a big source of inspiration over the years. His words may not have always translated into the most attractive designs, but his mindset was far loftier than most in the business.
This thing also drives like a goddamn jet-powered tank. So, there's that, too.

A quick trip to wiki reveals 360hp .... that sounds very nice. Also I'll agree with that Bangle statement. The man deserves more credit for actually trying to do something new.

Yeah, but does it have one of these?
![]() 11/19/2013 at 16:45 |

Sadly, no.
My car finder guy found ONE with a manual last week at a dealer auction in Houston. It never hit the floor, and his buyer didn't have a chance to bid on it.
The Steptronic is what it is. This is my first non-manual car in 20 years.

550, NICE. The midmodel refresh did great for this car

It'll do for now.

Great choice. I'd rather have this car than a new F10 5 series.
![]() 11/20/2013 at 14:24 |

I dunno about that... there's a white F10 with bitchin black wheels at my office's parking lot, and it really looks the business. But as far as price is concerned, well, I could afford this.

Looks the business. But doesn't drive the business. Discredits the business's core values. Sends the business's customers to Cadillac and Lexus. I want the real ultimate driving machine BMW back!
